FAQ For F@stLink E220 & E630 Data Cards

 

Q: What operating system does my E220/E630 Modems requires to function?
A: The E220/E630 Modems works perfectly on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Vista and Mac Operating systems 10.4 & 10.5

 

 

Q: Are there any minimum specification requirements for my computer?
A: To use the E220/E630 Modems, The following are recommended as a minimum computer specification:

  1. CPU: Pentium 3, 1GHz or above
  2. Memory: 128MB RAM or above
  3. Hard Disk: 50MB free disk space
  4. OS: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Mac Operating systems
  5. Modem Interface: USB 2.0 full speed for E220

PCMCIA Type II standard slot for E630.
(Please note that the PCMCIA slot is the standard slot and NOT the Express slot)

  1. Display Resolution: Display Resolution of 800 by 600 pixels or above; 1024 by 768 pixels is recommended.

 

 

Q: How do I connect my modem to the computer and get it working?
A: Switch the PC ON and connect the Modem to the PC’s slot as applicable. The operating system will automatically detect the modem as new hardware, follow the program installation instructions. Once installation is complete and the message “New hardware is ready for use” comes up, wait for a minute for all required drivers to install before you launch the user interface.

 

 

Q: I connected the Modem to the computer’s appropriate slot but the setup program did not start automatically. What do I do?
A: If the modem does not auto install go to My Computer and locate the drive with 3G icon. Double click on this icon to install or open and click on the application file (Setup.exe) to install and follow the simple installation steps

 

 

Q: After connecting my E220 USB Modem to the computer, the setup program does not auto start and if i find the “Setup.exe” file and start it, the operating system freezes. What do I do?
A: Please, insert the connector of the main and the auxiliary USB data cable into the USB interface of the PC.

 

 

Q: After installing my modem, it gets connected to my computer, but the drivers can’t install automatically. What do I do?
A: Disconnect and remove the modem and then reconnect and wait for a while for the drivers to re-install.

 

 

Q: It takes a long time to install my modem in windows XP, what could be responsible for this?
A: Your computer might be doing a thorough driver search during installation. Therefore, please do not choose the option” search driver on network” during installation.

 

 

Q: What does the LED display indicates?
A: Below are what the LED display signifies:
(1)Steady on(green): The modem is about to startup.
(2)Blink once every two seconds(green): Modem is searching for network or no network is available.
(3)Blink once every two seconds(green): GSM/GPRS/EDGE network is normal.
(4)Continuous blinking(green): Modem is transferring data on GSM/GPRS/EDGE
      network.                 
(5)Blink once every two seconds(blue): 3G network is normal.
(6)Continuous blinking(blue): Modem is transferring data on 3G network.
(7)Blink once every two seconds(Purple): HSDPA network is normal.
(8)Continuous blinking(Purple): Modem is transferring data on HSDPA network.
(9)LED off: Modem is disabled.

 

 

Q: Why is my system slow when sending multiple messages?
A: Messages are sent one after the other so if one fails, all subsequent ones will fail. To know the number of messages that were sent successfully, you can check that in the outbox or, you can setup sending status report.

 

 

Q: What should I do if I cannot access internet?
A:

  1. Be sure your sim is activated for data and your MTN F@stLink User Interface displays any of the following depending on the coverage you have at that point in time: 3G, GPRS, EDGE or HSDPA.
  2. Click on ”browser icon” to connect to internet.
  3. Be sure your APN is correct. “web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net”

 

Q: When I disconnect my modem from the computer, I receive a message “…cannot remove the hardware now…” what could be the problem?
A: Close/exit the MTN F@stLink User Interface. If the problem persists, restart your computer as there must have been a conflict.

 

Q: When I am on data operation, I received an error message “fault code 31”. What does this mean?
A: Its means temporary failure, please try it again.

 

Q: When I am on data operation, I received an error message “fault code 619”. What does this mean?
A: This message could be as a result of any of the following:

  1. The SIM card does not have data service
  2. There is an APN error.
  3. No network signal.

Q: When I am on data operation, I received an error message “fault code 629”. What does this mean?
A: This message could be as a result of any of the following:

    • No SIM card in the Modem.
    • The APN length is over 100 words.
    • There is need to import the PIN code.
