PRODUCT INSTALLATION & SET-UP

 

1. Operating System Specification

a. Windows 98SE/ME/2000
b. Windows Vista
c. USB version is 2.0

 

2. Installation guide

a. Refer to ‘Quick Start Guide’ in package for windows XP
b. For Vista, download compatible driver,
i. Unzip file and Double click on the setup.exe file

 

3. Unable to install

a. Ensure you have administrative rights on the system
b. Refer to User guide & ensure installation steps are followed.

 


Unable to detect device

a. Charge the Sharkpod device modem before launching application. See attached below detailed information on Battery Charging instructions
b. Ensure that the modem was installed properly, check under device manager & modems. If you see a yellow exclamation mark next to the Thetalogix modem, or the MC75 under other devices, it means that the device driver did not install properly for some reason.
c. Fix this by right clicking on the modem and choose the “update driver” option.
d. Point windows to the relevant driver under the driver folder on the disc provided.
e. Uninstall previously installed USB modems they may cause driver conflicts.

 

 

Device unable to connect

a. Ensure USB version is 2.0
b. Always make sure to use the extended USB cable provided. If the modem is plugged in directly into the USB port, charging might be influenced negatively
c. For multiple USB port users;
i. Ensure device is connected to port used during installation.
ii. Use this to ensure that the correct port is selected.
iii. Network settings/modem selection/refresh.
d. Ensure that right driver is loaded on pc:
e. Go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager, under modems, select ‘thetalogix sharkpod USB modem”, right click, properties, driver tab, confirm that driver version is 1.26 or later.
f. If not then update driver provided in CD or website.
g. Confirm correct parameters have been entered in the Fastlink Network settings. e.g.
iv. APN “web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net”
v. Use Name “web”
vi. Password “web”

 

 

 

Device won’t register on Network

a. SIM pin enabled (pin must be disabled or correctly entered in Fastlink launchpad)
b. Poor signal strength (adjust swivel antenna in a 90 degree fashion ensure antenna is inserted properly.
c. Use extended antenna if poor signal persists.
d. SIM not inserted correctly or properly
e. Insert Sharkpod into USB port and monitor device’s lights for possible issues.
f. Note: Sharkpod LED lights should behave as follows when powered: green light should be on, blue light flashes once every second(not registered on the network),blue light flashes once every 3 seconds(means device has registered on the network)

 

 

 

Unable to detect device

Device occasionally disconnect itself from network unexpectedly

a. This can happen when the battery drops below operation voltage level, red light indicates this.
b. Also ensure that the modem is connected to the USB port via the USB cable to ensure proper connection.
c. Disconnect can also occur when signal strength drops dramatically for some reason. Check signal strength on user software.
d. Network can also drop connection by itself for different reasons.

 

 


Device locks USB port and unable to connect

a. Unplug unit from the PC and wait for all the lights to go out and re-plug again. Modem reset.

 

 

Very slow connection or occasional connection

a. Confirm if operating system is Microsoft vista application software.
b. Some Sharkpod driver not compatible with Vista
c. Ensure compatible driver is installed for Vista
d. If the driver is not compatible with the operating system, the modem will not work at all.
e. For poor speed, check the signal strength,
f. Poor speed may be due to some congestion on the Network.

 

 

 

Error 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order

a. Check that GPRS signal & connectivity is available.
b. Confirm by inserting SIM in GPRS enabled handset & check GPRS signal icon
c. Try another MTN SIM card on the Fastlink just to confirm.
d. ALWAYS CONNECT THE UNIT VIA THE EXTENSION USB CABLE.
e. Ensure that SIM in use is enabled for GPRS data.
f. Ensure that the SIM has airtime available.
g. Ensure that the correct APN is selected



BATTERY CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS


PLEASE READ
THIS DEVICE CONTAINS AN INTERNAL LITHIUM-IONRECHARGEABLE BATTERY, WHICH NEEDS TO BE CHARGEDBEFORE USE AND WILL CHARGE DIRECTLY OFFTHE USB PORT.

Instructions: Insert the device into any active* USB port, the RED or GREEN light should turn on. If the light is RED, or flashing RED every 30 seconds, it means the device needs charging. Leave the device plugged into the USB port until it turns GREEN (this might take up to 30 minutes). When the GREEN light appears the device is ready for installation but still needs to be left in the active* USB port for at least 4 hours to charge up fully. If the BLUE light does not appear please remove for 5 seconds and then insert into the USB port again. You might need to redo the above if the device is not used for a long period, however it will remain fully charged if left in the active* USB port.

If any one of the following conditions spotted, it means that the device’s internal battery is flat and needs to be charged up:(the unit charges directly off the USB port, in other words, plug modem in USB port VIA USB CABLE, and unit starts charging automatically)
• red light , intermittent red light ,rapid alternate pulses between green and red for about 2 seconds, or no light at all spotted
• Leave modem in USB port to charge for a minimum of 4 hours before active usage.
• When unit is charged up and ready for use a green light will also be displayed

Once modem has registered on the network and fully charged it should be ready for use.

*active USB port refers to when power can be retrieved from the port usually when the computer is switched on and not on standby mode.
