A. MTN XtraByte is a service that allows eligible you borrow data on credit when you run out of data and pay back on your next recharge.

Is MTN XtraByte be available to all customers? Is MTN XtraByte be available to all customers?

A. No, MTN XtraByte is available to ONLY Prepaid customers that are eligible for the service.

What are the eligibility criteria? What are the eligibility criteria?

A. To be eligible for XtraByte service, you MUST:

1. To Be a Prepaid customer.

2. Have registered your number.

3. Have been on the MTN network for more than 3 months.

4. Have spent at least N200 monthly for 3 months

5. Have between N0 and N75 in your main account.

6. Have paid up any outstanding XtraTime loan request.

How can I check if am eligible for the service? How can I check if am eligible for the service?

A. You can check if you are eligible for XtraByte service by;

  • Dialling *303# and clicking ’My Account’ and selecting 1 to ‘Check eligibility’.
  • Sending SMS keyword: STATUS to 303
  • Dialling 303 then follow the voice prompt to confirm if you are eligible or not.
How do I borrow data? How do I borrow data?

A. Simple. Once you have confirmed that you are eligible for the service, you can then follow either of the below steps to borrow data:

Borrowing via *303# Menu:

  • Dial *303# and select XtraByte.
  • The system will then display all the data bundles that you can borrow.
  • You can then select your preferred data plan from the list.
  • After selecting your preferred data plan, the system will then send you a message with the amount plus the applicable service fee for you to confirm the transaction.
  • Once you confirm your transaction, the system will then credit your XtraByte account, debit your main account with bundle +service fee and then send you a successful notification message.

Borrowing via 303 IVR:

  • Dial 303 and the system will play an announcement for you to select your preferred language, either English, Igbo Hausa or Yoruba.
  • Upon selecting your preferred language, you will be required to select either XtraTime or XtraByte.
  • Once you select XtraByte, the system will then play out all the data amount that you can borrow.
  • You can then select your preferred data plan from the list.
  • After selecting your preferred data plan, the system will then send you a message with the amount plus the applicable service fee for you to confirm the transaction.
  • Once you confirm your transaction, the system will then credit your XtraByte account, debit your main account with bundle +service fee and then send you a successful notification message.

Note: You will be charged a service fee of 15% (including VAT) depending on the amount you want to borrow.

How much will I be charged for using MTN XtraByte? How much will I be charged for using MTN XtraByte?

A. You will be charged a service fee of 15.36% (including VAT) on any data bundle you borrow. The service charge will be applied on the data bundle loaned and your main account will be debited with bundle amount plus service fee.

For example, if you request for 25MB that ordinarily costs N50, you will be credited with the data value (25MB) BUT your main account will be in debit of -N57.68 i.e. N50 bundle fee + N7.68 service fee. This implies that you are to pay back N57.68 on your next recharge.

A. No, the data borrowed will be credited into your XtraByte account.

I noticed that some Xtrabyte plans have additional voice minutes when I requested for the bundles. What does this mean? I noticed that some Xtrabyte plans have additional voice minutes when I requested for the bundles. What does this mean?

A. Yes, some Xtrabyte bundle now have additional voice minutes. This means that when you buy any of the select bundles, you will also be able to call your friends and family from the additional voice minutes.

Will I be able to use the voice minutes to call all networks in Nigeria? Will I be able to use the voice minutes to call all networks in Nigeria?

A. Yes, you will be able to call all numbers in Nigeria with the voice minutes you get from the Xtrabyte purchase.

Note: You will not be able to call international numbers and Nigeria from the voice bundle while roaming. You will also not be able to call international numbers with the voice bundle.

At what rate will I be charged when I call from the voice bundle? At what rate will I be charged when I call from the voice bundle?

A. You will be charged at the rate of 13k/sec when calling from the voice minutes. Once you have exhausted the voice minutes, charges will be taken from your main account or any other voice bundle on your line.

If I have the voice minutes and other voice bundles/bonuses active on my line, which bundle/bonus will first be charged? If I have the voice minutes and other voice bundles/bonuses active on my line, which bundle/bonus will first be charged?

A. The bundle/bonus on your line with the closest expiry will be charged first for calls. However, if you have multiple bundles/bonuses with the same expiry, the voice minutes will be charged before the other voice bundles/bonuses on your line.

A. You can check your XtraByte account balance in the following ways;

  • From the *303# menu, select ‘My Account’ then select ‘2’ to view your account balance.
  • From 303 IVR menu: Simply dial 303, follow the voice prompt, press 5 and your account balance will be sent to you in an SMS.
  • From SMS: Text Balance to 303

A. You will be able to perform the following:

  • Request Airtime (XtraTime)
  • Request Data (Xtrabyte)
  • Check Balance
  • Preferred Language option (Available on 303 IVR ONLY)

A. There are 4 different languages on the 303 menu – Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and English. You can select your preferred language and change it at any time. However, if you do not select a preferred language, you will be defaulted to English.

Will I be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303# menu? Will I be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303# menu?

A. No, you will not be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303 menu. It is absolutely free.

A. Yes, you can borrow another data even if you have an existing data loan to pay back if you are still within your credit limit.

A. Yes, you will be able to borrow data or airtime multiple times within your credit limit. You can also borrow data and airtime at the same time but within your credit limit.

Is there a limit on the number of times I can borrow data?  Is there a limit on the number of times I can borrow data?

A. You can borrow data multiple times as long as you are still within your credit limit.

Can I exceed my credit limit in a month? Can I exceed my credit limit in a month?

A. No, you cannot exceed your credit limit in a month. Note: Your credit limit in a month can either increase or decrease but this is based on your recharge activities in the previous months.

A. Yes, you can increase your credit limit by increasing your spend from month to month.

A. You will be able to pay back any outstanding amount by recharging via physical recharge, logical recharge, VTU, DYA, On Demand, MTN Share & via other airtime recharge channels.

A. Yes, you will be able to view your transaction history by dialling *303#, click on ‘My Account’ and select transaction history.

A. Yes, all data bundles have its own validity date.

Will the data borrowed auto renew after expiry? Will the data borrowed auto renew after expiry?

A. The data borrowed will NOT renew after expiry.

Will I be able to transfer data from my XtraByte account to another customer’s account?  Will I be able to transfer data from my XtraByte account to another customer’s account?

A. No, you will NOT be able to transfer data from your XtraByte account to another customer’s account.

Will I be able to browse after I exhaust the data? Will I be able to browse after I exhaust the data?

A. No, your browsing session will be suspended unless you have any active data bonus or data bundle. However, you will able to borrow another data as long as you are within your credit limit.

A. No, you will NOT be able to transfer data from your XtraByte account via MTN Data Gifting or any other means to another customer’s account.

A. Yes, the data borrowed can be used to browse all websites.

What happens when the amount recharged is not enough to pay back the data amount borrowed completely? What happens when the amount recharged is not enough to pay back the data amount borrowed completely?

A. When the recharge an amount less than the loaned amount, the amount recharged will be used to reduce the amount your borrowed but your main account will still be in negative of the remaining loan amount. But subsequent recharges will be used to recover whatever is outstanding until the loan is fully recovered.

What happens when the amount recharged is more than the data amount borrowed? What happens when the amount recharged is more than the data amount borrowed?

A. When the recharge amount is greater than the outstanding data amount, the data amount recharged will be used to clear the loan amount and the balance will then be credited into your main account.

A. In cases where you recharge using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, the XtraByte credit borrowed will be deducted from the amount recharged then the balance or any associated bonus will be loaded into their respective dedicated accounts.

A. Yes, you can pay back data borrowed via MTN Share and via other airtime recharge channels.

Can I pay back the data borrowed using the data bonus in any of my bonus account? Can I pay back the data borrowed using the data bonus in any of my bonus account?

A. No, you cannot use any data in your data bonus account to offset the data borrowed.

Can I pay back data borrowed even if I have not used it? Can I pay back data borrowed even if I have not used it?

A. Yes, you can recharge and offset the data borrowed even if you have not used it.
