Value Added Services

You can now perform more tasks with your phone, using the MTN value added services. Your phone can now become your personal assistant. Don't leave home without it. Below are some of the services offered by MTN.

Please note the change in price effective from 1st of May 2005 for the following value added services :

Customer Care

By dialing a national toll-free number, the customer talks directly to an operator, who will answer or manage queries covering all aspects of the business, including billing queries, coverage, packages offered, costs, handset queries and tariffs.

Short message service

This allows customers to send and receive text messages via their phones. Alerts will sound on handsets, informing customers that a message has been received.

Voicemail

With this service, customers need never miss a call. If a phone is switched off, not working, engaged or unanswered, the call is diverted to voicemail, where it will be answered by a personal greeting that you have recorded. The service will then record the caller's message plusthe date and time of the call.The customer retrieves the call later at their convenience.

Your Voicemail box will be created automatically for you - 24 hours after loading your first MTNPay as you Go Card

To set up your voice mailbox, Dial 113 and follow the instructions:

Next, to set your voicemail diverts, dial the following:

  • All calls: **21* 174 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
  • No answer: **61* 174 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
  • When handset is off: **62* 174(plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
  • When busy: **67* 174(plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
  • Cancel all diverts: ##002# {yes/ok}.
  • The Voicemail service is FREE from your MTN phone.

Dial 0803 10 100 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number) to listen to your voicemail messages from any other phone. Calls charged at cellular rates You will need to remember these four numbers when using Voicemail:

  • Press 100 (Yes/Ok/Send) to listen to your messages.
  • Press 111 (Yes/Ok/Send) for a faster way to listen to your messages.
  • Press 110 (Yes/Ok/Send) to change your greeting (see overleaf).
  • Press 120 (Yes/Ok/Send) to change your password (see overleaf).

MTN FastMail

This service provides you with access to information via e-mails anytime and anywhere. It provides an e-mail account of about 10MB storage space with a customised e-mail account like john@mtnfastmail.com, which you can access via SMS or the Internet. In addition, you can redirect e-mails from your corporate intranet to your MTN Fastmail account such that you can access your official mails via your MTN Fastmail account at your convenience.

The FastMail service can be accessed by using your phone and laptop (MTN Fastmail Dial-up) or via SMS using the SMS feature of your phone (MTN Fastmail SMS).

Key features of the service include:

  • Free e-mail account with 10MB storage space.
  • Access via SMS or the Internet
  • MTN Fastmail Service is accessible in all 36 states and the FCT. In addition, subscribers who roam would be able to access the their MTN Fastmail account in over 80 countries, spread over 175 networks worldwide.
  • Subscribers can also personalise the Fastmail mailbox e.g. john@mtnfastmail.com

Setting up FastMail

To Setup your FastMail service, you first need to Register your username using your MTN cellphone:

   1. In order to register your username, first choose:

   -  A username (maximum 10 characters, e.g. ziggy )

   -  A password (minimum 6 and maximum 8 characters, e.g. heavenly)

   -  A secret question (this should be one word e.g. father)

   -  The answer to your secret question (this should be one word e.g. John)


   2. Then, type an SMS in the following manner remembering to insert a space between
       each entry and send the SMS to the number 130:


    -  reg username password secretquestion answer (e.g. reg ziggy heavenly father john)

    -  You will receive an SMS notifying you that Your registration request is queued.

    -  Soon after receiving that SMS, you will receive another one saying:

"Welcome to MTN FastMail.

Your user name ziggi@mtnfastmail.com is now registered with us.

To view help, send HELP. To login send LOGIN USERNAME PASSWORD to 130."

     If you try and register a username that is already being used by someone else, you will receive an SMS saying:

    -  "This username is in use. Suggested usernames: XXXX YYYY.
        If this is the case, you have to select another username and follow the registration steps again."

    -  Please note that your username and password can be alphanumeric (contain numbers and alphabets).

SaveMyContacts

Save My Contacts is an annual subscription based service which allows you to back up your contacts, as well as text and picture messages to a secure, remote online database; without the need for PC connection, cables PDAs, or any other other devices. In addition, from the online area you can send messages to any of the contacts. Your contacts are synchronised to the remote database that can be securely accessed over the Internet. This synchronisation is done over the MLife 2.0 WAP Gateway.

Call barring & forwarding

By programming their phones, customers can choose to bar incoming or outbound calls from or to certain numbers. Alternatively, call forwarding enables customers to redirect incoming calls to voicemail and mobile or fixed phones.

Call holding & waiting

Call holding gives the customer the option to interrupt and resume a call. Call waiting notifies customers of an incoming call when they are busy, which can be answered, rejected or ignored.

This service displays the number of the person calling. The customer then has the choice of whether to take the call or not.

International Roamimg

International roaming is probably the service feature that has the greatest value for international users of mobile telecommunications. It will enable customers of MTN Nigeria to make calls to and from other countries, across scores of GSM networks worldwide. Customers in Nigeria will thus benefit from the many roaming agreements already reached between the world’s GSM operators. Visitors to Nigeria with a GSM account held outside the country will also be able to use their phones here during their stay.
