Voicemail - What it is and how you can use it

1 ISSUE: Tell me about the voicemail service?

Solution:
MTN's Voicemail will answer your incoming calls if you can't take them. This service will greet the caller with a personal message that you have recorded. The service will then record the caller's message plus the date and time of the call. Your Voicemail box will be created automatically for you - 24 hours after loading your first MTN Pay as you Go Card

You will need to remember these four numbers when using Voicemail:

  • Dial 100 (Yes/OK/Send) to listen to your messages.
  • Dial 111 (Yes/OK/Send) for a faster way to listen to your messages.
  • Dial 110 (Yes/OK/Send) to change your greeting (see overleaf).
  • Dial 120 (Yes/OK/Send) to change your password (see overleaf).

 

2 ISSUE: How do I reset my personal voicemail?

Solution:
Only program the "all calls" options if you would prefer your cellphone to only take messages and not ring at all.

To set up your voice mailbox
Dial 113 and follow the instructions.

Next, to set your voicemail diverts, dial the following:
All calls: **21* 174 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
To cancel: ##21# {yes/ok}

No answer: **61* 174 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
To cancel: ##61# {yes/ok}

When handset is off: **62* 174(plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
To cancel: ##62# {yes/ok}

When busy: **67* 174(plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number)# {yes/ok})
To cancel: ##67# {yes/ok}

Cancel all diverts: ##002# {yes/ok}.

The Voicemail service is FREE from your MTN phone.

Dial 0803 10 100 (plus all 11 digits of your cell phone number) to listen to your voicemail messages from any other phone.

3 ISSUE: When do calls divert to voicemail?

Solution:
Calls will be diverted to Voicemail if:

  • your phone is switched off
  • you are outside network coverage
  • you are already engaged on another call the network is busy
  • you have selected the Divert Immediate option you are a Pay As
  • You Talk customer and you are out of credit
4 ISSUE: How do I record my voice message?

Solution:
How to record your Voicemail message (110):

You will be asked to record your own Voicemail message the first time you call Voicemail. If you would like to change the message heard by callers when the reach your voicemail box:

  • Press 110 (Yes/OK/Send).
  • A voice will tell you what to do. Think of the message you want to record before you phone in


Voicemail password (120):

You will be asked to enter a Voicemail password the first time you dial voicemail. It can be any 4-digit number you want. You will need this number if you want to call and listen to your messages from a phone other than your cellphone. Many people use the last 4 digits of their cellphone number, if you don't set up a secret number, then it will be set at 123 or 1234. To change your password press 120 (green phone).

Other useful hints:

While calling into Voicemail:

  • Press 11 to listen to the message again.
  • Press 33 to fast-forward to the end of the message.
  • Press ##002# (green phone) to cancel all diverts to Voicemail or any other number.


5 ISSUE: How long are messages stored?

Solution:

  • Messages you haven't listened to are kept for 7 days.
  • Your Voicemail has enough space to store 30 messages (each of 60 seconds long) at any time.

 

6 ISSUE: Can I listen to my voicemail from another phone?

Solution:
Listening to your messages from another phone (080310 100):
This means that you can listen to your Voicemail messages from any other phone.

  • Call 080310 100 wait and listen.
  • You will then be asked to punch in the last 11 digits of your cellphone number followed by #.
  • Then enter your 4 digit password. [If you have not changed your password (by dialling 110 from your cellphone) then it will be 1234.]
7 ISSUE: How do I find know when I have a message?

Solution:
You will know you have a message when:

  • Your cellphone makes a "beep" sound, or;
  • You see an "envelope" (envelope) on your cellphone screen, or;
  • The word "MESSAGE" or "MESSAGE RECEIVED" shows on your cellphone screen. Remember to always delete your message notification on your screen so that you know when you have got a new message. See your cellphone User Guide if you don't know how to do this.
8 ISSUE: How do I listen to my messages?

Solution:
How to listen to your messages (100):

  • Dial 100 (Yes/Ok/Send) on your cell phone.
  • Dial 1 (Yes/Ok/Send)to listen.
  • Dial 5 (Yes/Ok/Send) to get rid of your message once you have heard it.

The next message will play by itself.
Quick listen (111)
If you are in a hurry, and need to listen to your messages fast, then press 111 (Yes/Ok/Send) and your messages will be played one after the other without any breaks. Messages listened to in this way will automatically be deleted after 2 days.

9 ISSUE: How do I cancel my call diverts?

Solution:
To cancel all diverts (this means that your calls will not go through to your voicemail box at all).

· Cancel: ##002# (Yes/Ok/Send).
