MTN Cares

A broad set of initiatives deployed to support national efforts at containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, mitigate the pandemic’s social and economic impact, and keep our customers connected to their loved ones, critical resources, and support.

As the fight continues, please find our efforts below towards flattening the curve:

 

SMS

Over 4bn SMS sent from April to June 2020

MOMO

Over 1.7 Million free money transfers by about 100,000 people using the MoMo Agent Network (offer ended May 1st)

Data

  • Over 3,000 Terrabytes of free data utilized to access zero-rated health websites, and access to Ayoba, our partner messaging app.
  • Zero-rated access to educational websites for students and pupils.

Cash

  • Cash Donation to Lagos State Government
  • Payments of 2019 Company Income Tax (CIT) obligations ahead of the statutory deadline of June 30th as part of efforts to support the government.

Private Sector Support

  • N1bn to the CACOVID fund.
  • N10,000,000 worth of food to Feed the Poor through Lekki Foodbank.
  • 5m technical and mentorship support to COVID Innovation Challenge.
  • Donation of a 350kva Power generating set to Abuja Isolation center of the NCDC.
  • Over 24,000 SME’s registered for the Revv Programme – a series of masterclasses organised to provide SME’s with the skills needed to survive, grow and thrive in the wake of the pandemic.

Medical Support

  • N500m from the MTN Foundation for Health emergencies of which an initial first batch of over 70,000 pieces of essential personal protection equipment has been given to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Communication Support

  • Communication support to Lagos State Government (monthly recurrent for 3 months) N10,000 airtime for 89 sim cards and 3GB Data plan @N1500.
  • Communication support to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
  • Toll-free lines for Doctors on call, to support telephone consultations for patients with pre-existing conditions during the COVID-19 Pandemic for 3 months.
  • 1.4bn in airtime, toll-free lines, devices, and data to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
  • N500m in airtime, devices, data, and analytics to state governments.
  • Free data (2GB per month for 6 months) for 500 lines to the Federal Ministry Of Health

The threat that COVID-19 represents to Nigeria requires an unprecedented response from the public and the private sector.
