A. You can check if you are eligible for XtraTime service by;

  • Dialling *303#, clicking on ‘My Account’ and selecting ‘1’ to ‘Check eligibility’.
  • Sending SMS keyword: STATUS to 303
  • Dialling 303 then follow the voice prompt to confirm if you are eligible or not.
How do I borrow airtime? How do I borrow airtime?

A. Simple. Once you have confirmed that you are eligible for the service, you can then follow either of the below steps to borrow airtime:

Borrowing via *303# Menu:

  • Dial *303# and select XtraTime
  • You can then select your preferred amount from the list
  • After selecting your preferred amount, the system will then send you a message with the amount you are about to borrow and the applicable service fee for you to confirm the transaction.
  • Once you confirm your transaction, the system will deduct the service fee, credit your XtraTime account with the remaining airtime balance and send you a successful notification message.

Borrowing via 303 IVR:

  •  Dial 303 and the system will play an announcement for you to select your preferred language, either English, Igbo Hausa or Yoruba.
  • Upon selecting your preferred language, you will be required to select either XtraTime or XtraByte.
  • Once you select XtraTime, the system will then play out all the airtime amount that you can borrow.
  • You can then select your preferred amount from the list
  • After selecting your preferred amount, the system will then play an announcement with the amount you are about to borrow and the applicable service fee for you to confirm the transaction.
  • Once you confirm your transaction, the system will deduct the service fee, credit your XtraTime account with the remaining airtime balance and send you a successful notification message.

Note: You will be charged a sefrvice fee of 15% on every amount you borrow.

A. The available airtime bands on XtraTime are:

  • N25
  • N50
  • N100
  • N200
  • N400
  • N500
  • N750
  • N1000
  • N1500
  • N2000
  • N3000

How much will I be charged for using MTN XtraTime? How much will I be charged for using MTN XtraTime?

A. You will be charged a service fee of 15% on ALL lending bands. The service charge will be deducted before the airtime loaned is credited into your XtraTime account. (Please refer to table below)

Example 1: If you request for N25, a service fee of N3.75 (15% of N25) will be deducted and you will be credited with N21.25 in your XtraTime account BUT your main account will be debited with N25, i.e. you main account will be in –N25. This implies that you are to pay back N25 on your next recharge.

Example 2: If you request for N100, a service fee of N15 (15% of N100) will be deducted and you will be credited with N85 in your XtraTime account BUT your main account will be debited with N100, i.e. you main account will be in -N100. This implies that you are to pay back N100 on your next recharge.

A. No, the airtime borrowed will be credited into your XtraTime account.

A. You can check your XtraTime account balance in the following ways;

  • From the *303# menu, select ‘My Account’ then select ‘2’ to view your account balance.
  • From 303 IVR menu: Simply dial 303, follow the voice prompt, press 5 and your account balance will be sent to you in an SMS.
  • From SMS: Text Balance to 303

A. You will be able to perform the following;

  • Request Airtime (XtraTime)
  • Request Data (Xtrabyte)
  • Check Balance

How many languages are available on 303 IVR menu? How many languages are available on 303 IVR menu?

A. There are 4 different languages on the 303 menu – Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and English. You can select your preferred language and change it at any time. However, if you do not select a preferred language, you will be defaulted to English.

Will I be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303# menu? Will I be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303# menu?

A. No, you will not be charged for accessing 303 IVR or *303# menu. It is absolutely free.

Can I borrow airtime if I have an existing airtime loan to pay back? Can I borrow airtime if I have an existing airtime loan to pay back?

A. Yes, you can borrow another airtime even if you have an existing airtime loan to pay back as long as you are still within your credit limit.

Will I be able to borrow airtime or data multiple times within my credit limit? Will I be able to borrow airtime or data multiple times within my credit limit?

A. Yes, you will be able to borrow airtime or data multiple times within your credit limit. You can also borrow airtime and data at the same time but within your credit limit.

Is there a limit on the number of times I can borrow airtime? Is there a limit on the number of times I can borrow airtime?

A. You can borrow airtime multiple times as long as you are still within your credit limit.

Can I exceed my credit limit in a month?  Can I exceed my credit limit in a month?

A. No, you cannot exceed your credit limit in a month. Note: Your credit limit in a month can either increase or decrease but this is based on your recharge activities in the previous months.

Can I increase my XtraTime credit limit? Can I increase my XtraTime credit limit?

A. Yes, you can increase your XtraTime credit limit by increasing your spend from month to month.

How will I pay back the airtime I borrowed? How will I pay back the airtime I borrowed?

A. You will be able to pay back any outstanding amount by recharging via physical recharge, logical recharge, Access Yello Account (AYA), MTN OnDemand, airtime received from a friend through MTN Share or received airtime through any other means.

Can I view my transaction history? Can I view my transaction history?

A. Yes, you will be able to view your transaction history by dialling *303#, click on ‘My Account’ and select transaction history.

Will the airtime borrowed expire? Will the airtime borrowed expire?

A. No, the airtime borrowed does not have an expiry date/validity period.

Will I be able to transfer airtime from my XtraTime account to another customer’s account? Will I be able to transfer airtime from my XtraTime account to another customer’s account?

A. No, you will NOT be able to transfer airtime from your XtraTime account via MTN Share ‘n Sell or any other means to another customer’s account.

What MTNN services can I use with the airtime in my XtraTime account? What MTNN services can I use with the airtime in my XtraTime account?

A. The airtime borrowed can be used for all chargeable activities on the MTNN network, including but not limited to:

  • Voice calls
  • SMS
  • MMS
  • Prepaid Data Bundles
  • Premium rated services
  • MTN Backup
  • MTN Caller Tunez
  • MTN Play
  • Other current and future VAS services
At what rate will my calls, SMS, data and other services be charged from my XtraTime account? At what rate will my calls, SMS, data and other services be charged from my XtraTime account?

A. The applicable rates for the services used will be based on your current tariff plan rate.

Will I be able to call after I exhaust the airtime? Will I be able to call after I exhaust the airtime?

A. No, your call will be suspended once you exhaust the airtime unless you have any airtime in your main account or active airtime/minute bonus in your dedicated account.

What happens when the amount recharged is not enough to pay back the airtime amount borrowed completely? What happens when the amount recharged is not enough to pay back the airtime amount borrowed completely?

A. When the recharge amount is less than the loaned amount, the amount recharged will be used to reduce the amount you borrowed but your main account will still be in negative of the remaining loan amount. But subsequent recharges will be used to recover whatever is outstanding until the loan is fully recovered.

What happens when the amount recharged is more than the airtime amount borrowed? What happens when the amount recharged is more than the airtime amount borrowed?

A. When the recharge amount is greater than the outstanding airtime amount, the airtime amount recharged will be used to clear the loan amount and the balance will then be credited into your main account.

What happens when I recharge using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, instead of the standard recharge code, *311*…? What happens when I recharge using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, instead of the standard recharge code, *311*…?

A. In cases where you recharge using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, the XtraTime credit borrowed will be deducted from the amount recharged then the balance or any associated bonus will be loaded into their respective dedicated accounts.

Can I pay back the XtraTime airtime borrowed via MTN Share? Can I pay back the XtraTime airtime borrowed via MTN Share?

A. Yes, any airtime received or recharged via any channel can be used to pay off any outstanding XtraTime loan.

Can I pay back the airtime borrowed using the airtime bonus in any of my bonus account? Can I pay back the airtime borrowed using the airtime bonus in any of my bonus account?

A. No, you cannot use any airtime in your airtime bonus account to offset the airtime borrowed.

Can I pay back airtime borrowed even if I have not used it?  Can I pay back airtime borrowed even if I have not used it?

A. Yes, you can recharge and offset the airtime borrowed even if you have not used it.

I activated a data plan from my bank, and I got a message saying “from next time, bundle value will be used to recover open loan”. Please what does that mean? A. This means that your next data plan activation from any of the digital channels (bank, MoMo, myMTN NG app) will be used to pay your open loan.

A. The bundle amount will be used to recover your loan, and if there is any balance left after repayment, it will be credited to your main account.

Scenario 1:

Customer is owing N500 and tries to buy 2GB 2-day plan for N500. A successful notification is given from the digital channel used. The cost of the bundle (N500) will be used to recover the outstanding loan and the below notification will be given to the customer:

“The amount of NGN500 has been deducted from your data subscription fee and you have fully paid off your XtraTime Loan.”

Scenario 2:

Customer is owing N2,399 and tries to buy 2GB 2-day plan for N500. A successful notification is given from the digital channel used. The cost of the bundle (N500) will be used to recover the outstanding loan and notification will be given to the customer.

“The amount of NGN 500 has been deducted from your data subscription fee to settle your Xtratime Loan. Your pending loan balance is NGN 1899.0.”

Scenario 3:

Customer is owing N199 and tries to buy 2GB 2-day plan for 500. A successful notification is given from the digital channel used. The cost of the bundle (N500) will be used to recover the outstanding loan, the excess will be credited to the Main Account and below notification will be given to the customer:

“The amount of NGN500 has been deducted from your data subscription fee and you have fully paid off your XtraTime Loan. Your balance of NGN301 has been credited into your main account.”

A. Yes, you can still borrow airtime so long you still have available credit limit.
