- 25% data bonus on all data bundle purchased for another 3 months (Months 4 to 6) after the upgrade
All MTN customers can refer any identified subscribers who have not upgraded to 4G.
How to refer
You can refer a friend by dialling a USSD, SMS or via MyMTNAPP.
- USSD: *131*2*Referred Phone number#
- SMS: REF (space) Referred Phone number (space) 2 to 131 E.g. SMS (REF 0803******* 2 to 131).
- MyMTN App through the following steps;
- Open MyMTN App
- Click on the “Invite & Get Free Data” Tab
- Click on the “Refer 4G Upgrade” Tab
- Enter the number(s) you want to refer
- Click on “Send Invite”
Q. How many persons can I refer on 4G Upgrade?
A. You can only refer ten (10) phone numbers in a day.
Q. Will I receive the 1GB referral bonus each once all the referred customers upgrades their SIM?
A. YES! You will get 1GB referral bonus each on every successfully referred friend immediately their SIMs are upgraded to 4G. For example, you will get 10GB bonus if the 10 successfully referred customer’s upgrades their SIM to 4G.
Q. Will I be charged additional cost for sending a referral message?
A. No! There is no service charge for participating in the referral programme.
Q. How many times can I refer a friend?
A. You can refer a particular friend once in a day provided s/he has not upgraded to 4G.
Q. What is the validity of my referral bonus?
A. The 1GB referral bonus on 4G upgrade is valid for 24 hours.
Q. If I have multiple data bundles active and received a referral bonus, which bundle will deplete first?
A. If you have 1GB referral bonus on 4G upgrade with multiple data bundles active on your line, the bonus depletes first, then data bundle with the least validity.
Q. Will I be able to enjoy referral bonus with Device bonus and 4G Upgrade offers on the data bundle I purchased?
A. Yes, you will be able to enjoy Device bonus or any other bonus with the Referral bonus on the data plan you purchased if you are eligible for the offer, but the referral bonus will deplete first.
Q. Will I be able to rollover my unused 4G upgrade referral bonus?
A. No, you will not be able to roll over your unused referral bonus but your unused main data bundle will roll over as long as you buy another bundle before the current bundle expires or within the allowed grace period after the bundle expires.
Q. How do I check the referral bonus balance?
A. You will be able to check your bonus data balance via the following channels:
- SMS: Texting 2 to 131
- USSD: Dialling *131*4#
Q. Will I be able to REPLACE my referrer if I receive more than one referral to upgrade my SIM to 4G?
A. YES. You will receive a notification asking if you wish to replace your initial referrer as flash and SMS. Select YES is you wish to replace. Select NO or ignore if you wish to retain your initial referrer.
Q. What happens if I replace my initial referrer?
A. The NEW referrer will receive the 1GB referral bonus upon successful upgrade.
Q. Will my initial referrer be notified if I replace my initial referrer?
A. The initial referrer will receive a notification that the referred line has rejected the recommendation to upgrade his/her SIM to 4G.
Q. Will I be able to refer a line on 4G?
A. No. You can only refer a customer whose line is on 3G.
