About the show

The MTN Y’ello star is a musical platform created by MTN Nigeria, to search for hidden, unharnessed talents of the Nigerian youths. The platform will aid these discovered talents to expand, explore, and grow.

A total of 14 contestants will make it to the Y’ello star house to compete for a period of 9 weeks. During this time, the contestants will have to face many challenges and try to avoid elimination to make it to the top.

Only one winner will emerge and be titled “the first MTN Y’ello star”.

The competition’s innovative format features five stages:

  • a call for entry (auditions),
  • opening gala,
  • entry into the house,
  • the main competition
  • the closing gala.

The victor of the y’ello star competition will win an apartment with an in-built house studio, a honda hrv, n5million cash and a recording contract.

The runner ups go home with:

1st runner up: 3 Million Naira

2nd runner up: 1.5 Million Naira

Consolation prizes will also be given to the 4th – 10th position

Opportunities will also be provided to the contracts by our MTN partners.

These grand opportunities are:

Berklee

  • winner will record and produce songs in Berklee world-class studio in new york.
  • five finalists will be awarded scholarships to attend Berklee’s 2021 summer music program in the united states.
  • online music training program to all 13 contracts of y’ello star in an incubation hub
  • program certification and induction to Berklee alumni for all 13 contracts in the hub

Henley

  • access will be given to all 13 contestants of y’ello star to perform at henley alumni events in africa and uk
  • online creative entrepreneurship training program for all 13 contestants of y’ello star in incubation hub
  • program certification and induction to henley alumni for all 13 contestants in hub
  • a special song will be written for the show’s winner
  • join the winner at power station nyc for the recording and producing of the song.
  • expose all 13 contestants to usa music scene and promotional activities.
